Internal imaging involves the use of radiofrequency ultrasound waves emitted from a probe into a body cavity to assess the internal structure. Ultrasound is painless and fast. It is a constantly emerging technology that provides valuable information in many sick and injured pets. Heart and abdominal ultrasound for both cats and dogs is available with our recently purchased Phillips ATL 5000 unit. We have a range of probes (2-8mHz)which allow us to image superficial (surface) structures as well as deeper regions of interest such as the internal organs. Heart conditions such as congenital anomalies (birth defects), endocardiosis (leaking valves), pericardial effusion (fluid in sac around heart), cardiomyopathy (weakness of the muscle) can be diagnosed non-invasively. Our internal medical specialists will accurately measure your pets heart function and be able to provide you with a prognosis and treatment options. Many organs within the abdomen (belly) can become diseased. Our ultrasound capabilities allow assessment of the liver, kidneys, pancreas, spleen, bladder, adrenal gland, prostate, bile system, great vessels, stomach, intestines and lymph nodes. Skilled operators are also able to perform ultrasound-guided biopsies to obtain representative tissue and fluid for analysis at a laboratory. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
