Pet Emergency & Specialist Centre is fortunate to have Dr. Sarah Meachem from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research helping us as a consultant for our ongoing programs. Sarah brings great experience in this arena with a science qualification, having a PhD in physiology, working at the Prince Henry's Institute of Medical Research as an investigator and more recently having acted as the president of the Australian Society of Medical Research. Sarah has numerous international publications and has directly supervised many honor’s students and PhD candidates at Monash University. Sarah also has expertise in statistics which is helpful when looking at the feasibility of potential projects. As part of our global goal of achieving improved outcomes in the treatment of pets, we have established some in-house funded research projects. Typically these are completed by our junior interns under the instruction of a service veterinarian. This year we have three projects due to be presented at College Science Week, the eminent national conference for Australasian specialist veterinarians. We hope to publish some of this work in peer-review scientific journals and make a meaningful contribution to the veterinary literature.
